What makes your candles and wax melts safe for pets?

We use all-natural, non-toxic ingredients like coconut soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks and eco-friendly wooden wicks. Our candles and wax melts are free from harmful chemicals like phthalates and parabens, which can be dangerous for pets (and humans) if ingested or inhaled.

Even so, as with any burning product, it's important to keep candles out of reach of pets and never leave a burning candle unattended. Pets can be curious and may accidentally ingest wax or the wick, or even accidentally knock over your candle.

To ensure your pet’s safety, please supervise burning candles and keep them away from your pets.

What ingredients do you use in your products?

We do not use any additives or dyes.

Wax:

We prioritize your health and the environment by using a clean-burning, cruelty-free, eco-friendly coconut soy wax blend made in the USA and free from harmful chemicals. Our wax melts are made from a coconut wax.

We choose not to use paraffin wax in our products because it's a petroleum-based product. When burned, paraffin wax candles can release harmful chemicals like benzene and toluene into the air, potentially impacting indoor air quality.

Wick:

Our 100% cotton wicks ensure a clean, even burn and a strong fragrance release. They're also eco-friendly and free from harmful chemicals like lead.

Our 12oz candles are made with wooden wicks, which are also an eco-friendly choice when it comes to wicks.

Fragrance Oils:

We understand the importance of pet safety. That's why we carefully select phthalate-free and cruelty-free synthetic fragrance oils that are safe for your home and pets. Our scents are designed to be enjoyable and safe for everyone.

By choosing these high-quality ingredients, we're committed to providing you with candles that are both beautiful and safe.

We do not use essential oils in our candles. Essential oils, such as those listed below, can be toxic to pets if ingested, inhaled or applied topically:

  • Citrus (lemon, orange, lime, etc.)
  • Tea tree
  • Peppermint
  • Pine
  • Cinnamon
  • Ylang-ylang
  • Nutmeg
  • Eucalyptus
  • Wintergreen
  • Juniper
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Clove
  • Thyme

It's important to be aware of the potential dangers of essential oils and to choose pet-safe alternatives for your home.

What are phthalates and parabens?

Phthalates and parabens are harmful chemicals commonly found in many household products, including some candles. These chemicals can disrupt hormones and have been linked to various health issues.

To ensure your safety, we use only natural, non-toxic ingredients in our candles. Our products are completely free of phthalates and parabens, providing a clean and healthy burning experience for you and your pets.

What are the benefits of coconut soy wax?

Coconut soy wax gives a clean burn, strong scent throw, and a longer burn time.

By choosing our coconut soy wax candles, you're making a conscious choice for a cleaner and more enjoyable experience.

candle safety

How long can I burn a candle at a time?

It's recommended to burn a candle for a maximum of 3-4 hours at a time.

How do I properly extinguish a candle?

Our top recommendation for extinguishing a flame is to use a candle snuffer or wick dipper. Blowing on the flame can cause wax splattering. However, if you do not have a snuffer or wick dipper, then gently and slowly blow on the flame until it is extinguished. A flame is considered fully extinguished when there are no glowing embers at all.

When should I stop burning my candle?

For the safety of your candle and your home, it's important to extinguish your candle when there's approximately a 1/2 of an inch of wax remaining at the bottom of the jar. Burning it any further can lead to overheating, which could result in glass breakage or even a fire hazard. So, let's keep things safe and sound! Once you reach that half-inch mark, say goodbye to your candle and properly dispose of or (in our opinion) recycle or reuse your jar.

We share some ideas for this below!

Can I reuse a candle jar?

Yes, you can absolutely reuse a candle jar once it's fully burned! In fact, we highly encourage it and we do it in our home, too!

There are many uses for our versatile & minimalist jars, but a few of our favorites are:

  • bathroom storage (cotton balls, Q-tips)
  • office supplies (pens, pencils, paperclips)
  • makeup brush holder
  • DIY home decor

There are a few different (and simple) methods for removing the remaining wax in your jar. We like the suggested methods in this HGTV article.

Can I use a candle in a drafty room?

Drafts can cause uneven burning and soot. It's best to avoid burning candles in drafty areas, so avoid setting your candle near air vents, fans, windows, etc.

Is it safe to burn a candle all night?

DO NOT burn a candle unattended, especially overnight. It's best to burn a candle no longer than 3-4 hours at a time.

Can I touch the jar while the candle is burning?

For safety reasons, please avoid touching the jar while the candle is burning.

care tips

How often should I trim the wick and why should I do it?

Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each burn to ensure a clean & even burn and prevent soot.

How can I make my candle last longer?

Burn your candle for the recommended time (3-4 hours max), trim the wick (to 1/4 inch) before each burn, and store it in a cool, dark place.

There is some wax stuck on the sides of my jar. Is this normal?

Yes, this is totally normal for coconut soy wax! This is a natural characteristic of coconut soy wax and doesn't affect the candle's performance or safety.

Unlike 100% soy wax, which can tunnel, coconut-blended waxes don't tend to do that. Initially, you may notice some wax buildup on the sides of the jar. As the wick burns, the sides of the jar will gradually heat up, melting the remaining wax.

It's important to note that a full melt pool may not be achieved until the candle is halfway down. But again, this is a normal occurrence with coconut soy wax and doesn't require immediate action.

What should I do if my candle tunnels?

Tunneling is a common issue with 100% soy wax candles. However, our coconut soy wax blend is formulated to minimize this and nearly eliminate completely.

To prevent tunneling, ensure you're burning your candle for the recommended time (usually 3-4 hours) each session. Avoid extinguishing the flame early, as this can encourage tunneling. If you continue to experience tunneling, please reach out to us here and we'll be happy to assist you!
